The bright future of engineering: pair start college apprenticeship

This month, two of our trainee engineers begin a three-year apprenticeship at City of Liverpool College, Merseyside.

Mick and Alex successfully secured a place on the Refrigeration Air Conditioning and Heat Pump (RACHP) engineering technician level 3 course, which will operate in tandem (20:80 split) with their contract and on-the-job training at Climarite Ltd.

Prior to joining Climarite in July 2021, Mick had a background in refrigeration supplies. This foundational knowledge combined with a keen attitude to learning and willingness for hard graft meant Mick was out on his own in a van within the first year.

Similarly, Alex joined in October 2022 as a second man on one of our install teams and quickly proved his capabilities. After completing a collage course in plumbing, Alex arrived at Climarite and was able to apply his knowledge and continues to build on the more technical aspects of the job.

Both Mick and Alex have worked hard to earn a place on this course and Climarite is pleased to support them through their apprenticeship.

The RACHP course will cover a variety of applications including food production, product distribution, retail storage and display, transport and office climate control, manufacturing processes (e.g. petrochemical, pharmaceutical), IT/datacentres and medical/healthcare services temperature and environmental control.

The technicians will develop skills in installation, commissioning, testing, fault diagnostics, rectification of systems, component/refrigerant suitability, pressure and electrical systems.

Each apprentice will complete 20 percent off-the-job training which will include UK and international regulatory standards, technical and environmental legislation (inc. health and safety), working with pressure systems, electrical circuits and flammable substances.

Upon completion of the course in 2025 we believe Mick and Alex will be two of the finest young engineers operating in the industry. On behalf of the entire team at Climarite, we wish Mick and Alex all the very best on their apprenticeship adventure.
