Congratulations to our business development manager, Alex Connolly, who successfully completed the award-winning STEMazing Inspiration Academy programme this week.
Alex dedicated her own free time to the 12-week programme, completing approximately 60 hours of training and delivery. As part of the programme, she taught two separate classes 4 x STEM lessons at a primary school in the Northeast.
Alex says about the programme: “I loved so much about this programme but I especially enjoyed hearing about the variety of fascinating jobs the cohort of women do, there such a diverse range of careers in STEM.
“I also adored the children in my classes, they were so smart and engaged in the lessons we covered, their imagination is incredible and problem-solving ability is very encouraging. I can’t wait to use these skills I’ve developed more in my local community.
“I am so proud to be a female representing the refrigeration industry, as well as careers in engineering and STEM.”
Alex was motivated to join this female-led initiative after hearing that there is only 16 percent women working engineering and 26 percent in STEM overall – a statistic that is changing, but very slowly.
The STEMzing Inspiration Academy supports women working in STEM careers to shine as visible role models and inspire young people through fun, interactive STEM sessions.
Alex aims to use her STEMazing Inspiration Academy training to work more closely with the local community and show young people that women can and do work in successful engineering and STEM careers. In 2025 Alex will attend careers fairs, STEM Festivals, engineering workshops and deliver more STEM lessons in and around Lancashire.
